Efficiency Without Borders: Silos Córdoba Transforms a Plant in Dubai with the Operational Versatility of Metal Silos

The recent completion of a new grain storage facility in Dubai marks not only another international milestone for Silos Córdoba, but also a clear demonstration of the added operational value of steel silos in high-demand logistics environments.

In this project, Silos Córdoba’s galvanized steel silos have been integrated into a plant that already included existing concrete silos. The result is a more versatile, more efficient facility that is fully optimized for product movement and modern grain management.

Technical details of the project

Now fully operational, the facility includes four complementary hopper silos, installed in the area between the existing concrete silos. Two of them have a capacity of 240 m³ each, and the other two have a capacity of 380 m³ each.

This plant has been designed to serve a dual purpose:

On one hand, it will handle the residual grain from the existing concrete silos.

On the other hand, thanks to the handling equipment fitted with variable frequency drives (VFDs), also supplied by Silos Córdoba, it will enable precise control over the blending of different grains being conveyed to the feed mill.

In addition, we have supplied the electrical cabinet and the SCADA system that manages this new extension. This system will be fully integrated into the client’s main SCADA system, ensuring centralized, efficient, and operation-oriented management.

Why integrate steel silos into a facility with concrete silos?

While concrete silos perform well in long-term static storage, they have clear limitations in terms of operational flexibility. The addition of steel silos as dynamic buffer storage allows for:

Faster loading and unloading operations, reducing turnaround times.

Temporary segregation of different types of grain, increasing commercial flexibility.

Ongoing maintenance or cleaning of the main silos without disrupting operations.

Better responsiveness to peak activity periods, especially in port environments.

This storage capacity expansion project clearly demonstrated one of the main advantages of steel silos over concrete ones: their ease of assembly in very limited space. Another key benefit was the reduced assembly time and the low cost involved. Silos Córdoba even supplied the specific tools required to shorten installation time (automated electric hoists, safety pulley systems, etc.). In short, after a careful study of the client’s needs, Silos Córdoba designed the expansion to meet them efficiently.

As we recently highlighted in our article Advantages of steel silos over concrete silos for grain storage, steel silos offer critical advantages in terms of operation, scalability, and maintenance cost. In this Dubai project, these benefits became evident from day one.

A future-ready facility

Thanks to their modular design and fast assembly, steel silos can be easily adapted to meet changing demands, increase capacity, or reroute grain flows without the need for major civil works.

In Dubai, this flexibility has resulted in a facility that is:

More efficient in terms of energy consumption and human resources.

Optimized for product intake and dispatch.

Better prepared to meet the plant’s operational needs.

At Silos Córdoba, we continue to invest in intelligent engineering, modular solutions, and real-world operational efficiency for our clients around the globe.
